In accordance with the provisions of sections 14 and 15 of the Tobacco Control Act, 2016 and part Il of the Tobacco Control Regulations, 2019, the Ministry of Health wishes to notify all importers of tobacco and tobacco products into The Gambia that new circle of graphic health warning and health messages have been developed to replace the current one in circulation, bearing the picture of a child. The new prescribed graphic health warnings and health messages covers ninety percent (90%) of the principal display area of every tobacco package.
Effective 30th of September 2024, all tobacco and its products shall bear the new graphic health warnings and health messages. This advance notice is therefore given to provide sufficient time to all tobacco importers to inform and engage their business partners in ensuring the smooth and timely implementation of this new directive.
Whilst thanking all importers for complying with the preceding directive, the Ministry wishes to make it clear that no Tobacco products shall be allowed into The Gambia contrary to the samples and specifications given after the 30th of September 2024. Hence, all the necessary measures and mechanisms will be put in place to monitor and enforce this directive.
